It is a tremendous obligation when we view it as a whole but, with the help of the Lord, easy to meet if we take the tasks one by one, always keeping our obligation in mind as we travel through life. Missionary work must grow in foreign fields as never before; missionary work. Missionary character and obligation of the church.

Though there is much written about the posture of the church toward the missionary, I have found almost nothing about the missionary’s posture toward the church—except for one notable book: the Bible.

Johannes Blauw captured the basic premise in the title of his book: The Missionary Nature of the Church. Ecumenicals embraced this way of speaking more fully with the merger of the IMC and the World Council of Churches infollowed by Roman Catholics and Vatican II’s pronouncement that “the Church on earth is by its very nature.

And besides all this it is evident that the work of missions is the task of the Church since the Lord Jesus himself calls his Church the salt of the earth, and says: Ye are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a lamp, and put it under the bushel, but on the stand (Matt.15).

–25). The local church sends out missionaries (Acts ) and cares for missionaries after they are sent (Phil. –16; 3 John 1–8). And healthy, reproducing local churches are normally the aim and end of our missionary effort (Acts ; Titus ).

“A missionary is a prepared disciple whom God sends into the world with his resources to make disciples for his kingdom.” Ada Lum, A Hitchhiker’s Guide to Missions A missionary is “a ministering agent, selected by God and His church, to communicate the gospel message across any and all cultural boundaries for the purpose.

The Bible is a missionary book, not just a book about missions. From its beginning in Genesis () to its conclusion in Revelation (; ) the Bible sets forth God’s desire that all the people of the world know him and his salvation. Consider this quotation from A. Hay’s book, The New Testament Order For Church and Missionary: The Lord founded the church as a missionary organization.

Such was its original structure. It was not an ecclesiastical organization with missionary endeavor as a department of its work. Often God sends a missionary to a particular people group as Paul was sent to the unreached Gentiles and Peter to the Jews (Galatians ).

Although technically a Christian missionary is one specifically called by God and sent out by the local church, every Christian has a mission to make disciples. What does a Christian missionary do. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has released a new, updated handbook of instructions for missionaries serving around the world.

The handbook, “ Missionary Standards for Disciples of Jesus Christ,” replaces the previous handbook that was last updated in “It was the book,” she said, “the Book of Mormon.” The Book of Mormon and Church magazines are great missionary tools—they should be shared liberally with others.

They help to teach and testify of the truth even while you and the missionaries sleep. Step Three: Continue to Fellowship.

This order is used by The General Board of Global Ministries for commissioning persons to the office of missionary. Presiding bishop: Dear friends, as we take part in this celebration of blessing and commissioning, we are reliving a practice of the early church.

Question: "What does it mean to be missional. Should Christians be missional?" Answer: “Missional” or “missional living” is a Christian term that in essence describes a missionary lifestyle. Being missional includes embracing the posture, the thinking, behaviors, and practices of a missionary in order to reach others with the message of the gospel.

The missional church is not missional just because it is contemporary, young, hip, postmodern-sensitive, seeker-sensitive or even traditional.

The missional church is not about big programs and organizations to accomplish God's missionary purpose. The missional church is not involved in political party activism, either on the right or left.

The English version of the Manual of The Christian and Missionary Alliance as published on the Web site by the Office of the Corporate Secretary is the only official version for use in application and interpretation.
